Surf & Turf Seafood Festival Recap

On a fine Sunday afternoon, Fatboi Tendencies braved the sweltering heat and their aggressive hangovers to attend the Surf & Turf Seafood Festival in Oceanport, New Jersey. As we all know, the best way to cure a hangover is to keep drinking so upon entering the festival, we made a beeline straight for the wine and beer tent. Armed with a Blue Moon Belgian Table Pilsner and an Anchor Summer Wheat Ale in hand, we descended upon the seafood smorgasbord. The first obstacle was to conquer the 30-person line at the Red Hook Lobster Roll truck. With a line that long, you know your taste buds are about to be transported to Funkytown. Jess chose the Maine-style lemon mayo lobster roll.
It tasted as fresh as if a burly fisherman had just wrestled a giant lobster with his bare hands. The lemon mayo added a zesty flavor to the juicy lobster meat.

Our next stop was Joe’s Crab Shack stand, a chain favorite, for some Queen crab legs and crab dip (crab dip not featured because it was devoured too quickly).

Smothered in butter and Old Bay seasoning, we cracked open these bad boys to reveal flavorful meat that kept us fishing for more (shoutout to Fatboi Mom Jan). Rating: Ice Cold Brewski. Across the lot we spied a coconut tree swaying in the breeze. Upon closer inspection we discovered it was a mirage but to our delight, there was Gaetano’s coconut shrimp-the next best thing. The shrimp was breaded to perfection with a light coconut taste, great for sharing but I was shellfish. (Ha ha ha). Rating: Salsa Verde. Last but certainly not least, came Ike’s Famous Crabcake Sandwich from Ike’s Famous Crabcakes stand. img_1144-1While the sandwich would have been good on its own, the sun-dried tomato tartar sauce took it to a whole ‘nother level.

With full, happy tummies, we waddled over to the racetrack to catch a horse race. Next time we will come prepared with our floppy hats and monocles. Thanks for checking out our post! Court dismissed, bring in the dancing lobstahs!
