Greetings. This post has nothing to do with rapper Waka Flocka Flame. Oh, you’re disappointed…? Ok hmm. I’mma sip my marg and eat this burrito with no handssss. Moving on. If you’re looking to impress your friends and colleagues with a restaurant recommendation, you can’t go wrong with La Flaca in the Lower East Side. La Flaca is a hidden gem with a cozy vibe that is great for a night out with your best friends, or as a buffer for a mediocre date (I speak from experience). Their website boasts, “The best new Mexican in the Lower East Side”, and it is no exaggeration. The menu options are not only indulgent but healthy, so it’s a win-win! All meat, chicken, and eggs are hormone free and organic. There are plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options as well. If you’re lookin’ to booze there is a wide selection of beer, wine, cocktails, tequila, Mezcal, and bourbon & rye. I HIGHLY recommend their margaritas. The coconut margarita is my all-time favorite, it tastes just like a piña colada!
To start off the night, try one of the classic tapas with a twist. Their version of disco fries are french fries topped with queso, melted cheese, onion, tomato, cilantro and spicy aioli, and they are absolutely delicious.
La Flaca’s dinner menu features everything from BBQ pulled pork to shrimp tacos, and in between. My go-to is the La Flaca Burrito which comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, beans, sour cream, guacamole, and your choice of beef, shredded or vegetarian chicken, shrimp, steak, grilled chicken, chorizo, pork, tempeh bacon, or fish. You can even add vegan cheese for a dollar more.
If that isn’t enough to entice you, their homemade desserts such as the flan and sopapillas, or liquid desserts like the Mets-I-Can coffee (coffee with Agavero and Kahlua) might just do the trick. You can even croon on the mic at their Karaoke nights every Thursday at 11:45pm! So what are you waiting for? Get down to La Flaca and go hard in the mothaf%#*in guac! I give it a rating of Guy Fieri.
